2010 Annual Meeting and Conference
CAN THE POWER GRID HANDLE PLUG-IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES?
Join Government Officials, Automobile and Utility Executives, Battery Manufacturers and Regulators to Hear How Utilities Should Prepare for the Deployment of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV’s)
NAATBatt’s 2010 Annual Meeting and Conference Explores:
THE IMPACT OF PEV’S ON T&D SYSTEMS: CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS
December 8-10, 2010 — Louisville, KY
Late this year automakers will begin selling PEV’s into the mass consumer market for the first time. The launch of the Chevy Volt™ and the Nissan Leaf™ will be a watershed event for the U.S. automobile industry. But will the launch of first generation PEV’s also mark a watershed event for electric utilities, testing the reliability of their transmission and distribution (T&D) systems as never before?
PEV’s will represent, in the aggregate, a huge and potentially unpredictable new consumer electricity load. No one knows exactly where and when consumers will recharge their PEV’s. But the ability of utilities to predict when that recharging will occur—and to accommodate what might occur—is critical to protecting the stability of the U.S. power system.
The NAATBatt 2010 Annual Meeting and Conference will examine what electric utilities and automobile companies are doing to prepare for the advent of mass market PEV’s and their potential impact on the grid. Experts will discuss strategies and best practices that utilities can employ to minimize risk. Among the strategies, experts will talk about new distributed energy storage technologies, such as residential storage, community energy storage and vehicle-to-grid systems, that can provide flexibility and stability to T&D systems dealing with PEV-related load.
The Conference will discuss likely consumer behavior concerning PEV recharging and the ability of utilities to influence that behavior through smart metering, time-of-day charging, demand aggregation, voluntary curtailment programs and other strategies. The Conference will ask whether utilities should properly be trying to modify consumer behavior as their principal strategy for dealing with PEV load. Should PEV recharging demand be tailored to suit the grid, or should the grid be tailored to suit the demand of PEV consumers? Join government officials, industry executives and utility regulators in discussing and debating this important policy issue.
The NAATBatt 2010 Annual Meeting and Conference will be held at the famous Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky on December 8-10, 2010. NAATBatt has reserved a limited block of discounted hotel rooms at the Seelbach. Click on "Hotel Information and Reservations" below to reserve a room.
